With the popularity of health fads these days, it’s easy to dismiss everything you hear as exaggerated marketing. However, some health trends are definitely better than most. Lumping them all together and dismissing them might mean you’ll miss out on something awesome.

Buteyko®  Breathing Normalization

Buteyko®  Breathing Normalization advocates learning how to improve your breathing through breathing exercises. It sounds easy and simple but you’d be surprised at how many people don’t really pay attention to how they breathe. For most people, it’s easy to sneer or scoff at it, thinking it’s something that doesn’t need to be taught or learned. But proper breathing does have an effect on how our body balances oxygen and carbon dioxide. Some even regard the Buteyko®  breathing exercises as a meditation exercise, one that can help you deal with stress and negativity.

Improves Overall Health

Initially designed to help asthmatic children, the program has also been found to address the needs of people who suffer from enlarged adenoids or sleep apnea. It also helps alleviate the symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), as well as other breathing problems. Buteyko®  Breathing Normalization also helps treat radiation sickness, flu, hyperventilation, and many other conditions. Because it’s natural and non-invasive, a lot of people find the treatment to be preferable to other medical treatments.

Its History

Dr. Buteyko started work on his groundbreaking idea after enrolling in the First Medical Institute in Moscow, Russia, in the mid 1940’s. There, while working on his medical studies, he made the realization that there was a definite connection between how breathing can affect pH balance in the body, and how that pH balance, in turn, affects health. The condition of a patient, he found, is related to their breathing pattern. The worse their health gets, the more severe their breathing becomes.

After many years of work and very positive results from a trial performed while at the Moscow Medical Academy, he was granted a patent for the Buteyko®  Method. Eventually he established his own clinic in Moscow, Russia, known as Clinica Buteyko® .

Educational Programs and Exercises for You

Anyone can learn how to apply the Buteyko®  Breathing method. For help, sites like the BreathingCenter.com offer educational programs online that you can enroll in. You can choose from whichever one you think suits your lifestyle the best. If you think trying it at your own pace and on your own schedule is better, though, then getting instructional DVDs, books and downloading e-materials on the subject is the way to go. Whatever way you choose, make sure you take the time to really learn the method and apply it in your life. Your body will thank you for the results.
