In Denver, just like throughout the United States, big summer storms often result in small to giant sized hail problems. Surprisingly, even some of the smaller sized hail can result in major cosmetic damage to a vehicle, particularly if there is significant wind with the hail.

As a vehicle owner, ensuring that you have the insurance to cover hail damage repair is always an important consideration. If you have comprehensive insurance, or even if you don’t, we can help to restore your vehicle to the smooth, dimple-free look of a new car even with significant damage.

Protecting Your Ride

However, before even worrying about how to make a claim, there are some simple strategies to minimize the damage. Obviously, getting your vehicle in a garage or under a carport is the safest option, but that may not always be possible. You may want to consider investing in a car cover, and that can be stored in the trunk or the garage for emergencies.

In the event you are on the road or not able to get your car into a garage consider the following:

•  If you have emergency blankets, tarps or sleeping bags place them on the hood, roof and trunk of the car and extend them as far as possible over the sides. Typically hail damage is worse on the top side of the vehicle, but watch for the prevailing wind to provide optimal placement for protection.
•  If you don’t have blankets but can find some evergreen boughs, place them over the vehicle for protection. Alternatively, find a windbreak of trees and use it for shelter as much as possible from the storm. Be very careful to avoid being around trees if there is major wind as this can create problems with breaking limbs and damage.
•  If you can’t find anything use the floor mats. These may only protect part of the vehicle, but it will limit the damage to a much smaller area.
