A memory care facility is a place where seniors can get help with remember things. Forgetfulness is a common sign of aging, but there are also diseases, such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, which can cause people to forget all kinds of things. Some people who have these diseases forget all about their family members and may not even be certain who they are. It’s possible for them to forget their own name, birthday, and events that have happened in their lives.

How Does This Kind of Facility Help?

While there isn’t a foolproof method to causing people to remember everything, the services offered by staff at the memory care facility are enriching for those who struggle to remember things and often find themselves forgetting who they’re speaking to, where they’re going, or what they’re doing.

The staff members may play different kinds of memory games with seniors, including card and pictures games, which can stimulate the part of the brain that is responsible for memory. The pictures could include some very basic items, including clip art images of fruits, vegetables, shapes, and other assorted patterns.

Do These Activities Really Work?

The activities can keep the brain functioning and can actually improve memory for many people. While this doesn’t mean that seniors who struggle with memory problems will automatically be able to remember everything and anything, it does mean that it’s possible for them to experience some progress so that they’ll begin to forget things a bit less. It doesn’t hurt to have seniors participate in these fun exercises, especially since there is a chance that it will help them with their memory, even if it’s only for a short-term basis.

Jersey Shore Adult Day Care offer memory care services to seniors who would like to work on improving their memory. They can participate in these kinds of activities as much as they’d like to each week with a professional staff member who always has plenty of ideas and new ways to enrich the mind and stimulate the memory. The seniors who give memory care a try often notice a huge difference and continue to receive the services because they want to be able to remember things.
