Chimney Cleaning: 3 Different Methods

While we may wish that none of our chimneys would ever have to need cleaning, all chimneys eventually get too dirty at some point. If you feel like yours is in need of some TLC, then read on to find out more about the four different processes of chimney cleaning.

Dual Line Method
For this method, you are going to need two people to pull it off. Basically, one person on the roof drops the brush and rope setup down into the chimney. The other person, waiting inside the house, takes the other end of the rope. Then, each person will take turns pulling the rope so that thy can get at the dirt inside of the chimney’s walls, according to How Stuff Works.

Rod Method (Top Down)
Basically, all you will need to do is to get up on the roof of your house and insert a chimney brush into the chimney’s opening. Then, you have to raise and lower the brush in order to get rid of the dirt inside of the chimney walls. As you go lower down the chimney, you have to attach more flexible rods to the brush in order to reach farther down. This is the least messy method, as you can seal off the fireplace beforehand.

Rod Method (Bottom Up)
This method is basically the same as the previous one, but instead of inserting the chimney brush from the roof, you insert the brush from your fireplace’s opening instead. While it may be safer than getting up onto your roof, you won’t be able to seal off your fireplace, which can lead to tons of mess.

Whichever chimney cleaning process you choose, it can be incredibly messy and time consuming. You may just want to get the professionals to do the job for you instead. Why not give a company like Rich & John’s Complete Chimney Service a try?
