What Does It Take to Get a Utah Real Estate Broker License?

Becoming a real estate broker in Utah will take some time and effort, but it’s not as hard as one might think. If you are interested in becoming a broker, you should first understand the steps to getting a Utah real estate broker license. The following are just a few of the requirements.

Statutory Licensing Qualifications

The statutory licensing qualifications required for the state of Utah include truthfulness, honesty, competency, reputation and integrity. What this means for you is that you must have a good legal record. If you have a felony that dates back to any time within the last five years, you won’t qualify. Additionally, a misdemeanor within three years of time will disqualify you as well. It’s important you are committed to helping your clients with honesty and integrity, and this requirement helps solidify that for them.

To obtain a Utah real estate broker license, you will need some experience. The standard is at least three years. Though it may seem impossible to get experience without a license, there are a few ways you can go about working in the real estate industry to obtain that experience. For example, many realtors use assistants to help them manage their appointments and offices. You could also do some work in property management. Scouting and development are some other opportunities to get your foot in the door and secure some experience.

Utah requires a minimum of 120 hours of real estate education before becoming licensed. The educational institution must be certified as a Real Estate Pre-License School and your educational courses must be approved. Courses include Real Estate Principles, Practices and License Law.

There are other requirements that include taking and passing the broker exam, as well as submitting a certain amount of documentation. Contact a certified school today to see what you need to do to get started on the path to obtaining your Utah real estate broker license.
