Technicians often install industrial pump skids in a dark closet or hide them behind an access hatch that’s seldom opened. As a result, few people ever get the opportunity to even see what’s going on inside of these important pump system components. That is, of course, until something goes wrong with them.

When that happens, managers often have to file a requisition order for an extremely costly repair that requires a drastic reworking of many different components. New research has suggested that modular industrial pump skids can serve as part of a solution to this annoying problem.

During the design phase, engineers can opt for a complete pumping system that’s modeled entirely around individual modules. When maintenance is needed at a later date, these modules could simply be swapped in and out on a case-by-case basis. This should save quite a bit of time as well as money, since no structural changes would have to be made later on.

If something went wrong, then the industrial pump skids could simply be replaced with an entirely new assembly. After the change is made, the new one should last for a prolonged period of time. The same could be said of any other piece of the puzzle. Pumps and pipes could be designed in a similar fashion so they could be changed out instantly if the need ever arose.

Small businesses that adopt these changes could end up drastically cutting their overall maintenance costs over the lifetime of their pumps, so it could be looked at as an investment rather than an expense.
