Both the Sig Sauer P250 and the Sig Sauer P320 are semi-automatic handguns that primarily use 9mm ammunition. More frequently you will find the Sig Sauer P320 for sale today because it is considered an updated product of the P250, but what are the differences?

The main difference between the two is the firing system. The P320 user a striker-fired mechanism while the P250 uses a double action only hammer system. The update to a striker-fired mechanism allows for a smoother release and more efficient rate of fire.

Both guns can utilize a variety of ammunition, making it easy to find cheap ammo online, you just need the proper attachment.

History of the P250
The Sig Sauer P250 was released in 2007 by the Company Sig Sauer, a German-Swiss firearms manufacturer founded in 1976. This pistol saw limited use with only two major groups taking on large orders; the Hong Kong Police and the Cleveland Police of the United Kingdom. The product was discontinued in 2017 because updated handguns were released, making it unnecessary to manufacture.

Specifications of the P250
The P250 was available in three sizes; full size, compact, and subcompact. Having multiple sizes allowed purchasers to buy guns for their needs. If a police unit or other department needed smaller weapons, then the compact gun would be beneficial. Here are some of the details:

  • Weight: 24.2-28.9 oz (with magazine)
  • Length:6.7-8.1 mm
  • Barrel Length: 3.6-4.7 mm
  • Width: 28-34 mm
  • Height: 120-140 mm

The P250 also has variations in ammo types including; .22 LR, .380 ACP, 9×19mm, Parabellum, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Different attachments are necessary to use different ammo types.

The limiting factor of having a smaller weapon is a smaller magazine capacity. Going down in size will lower the number of rounds by two or three, depending on the ammunition type. In the regular size weapon, it will fit between 10-17 rounds, again depending on the type of ammunition.

History of the P320
The P320 was first introduced in 2014 as a popular semi-automatic handgun to replace the less well-received P250. A competition known as the XM17 Modular Handgun System Competition took place later that year and Sig Sauer modified the P320 to fit the competition. It went on to win, garnering considerable attention and leading to widespread use.

As of today, the P320 is used in Denmark, Norway, Thailand, and the United States. Because of the competition, the P320 replaced the Beretta M9, a well-known and much-loved handgun, as the main service pistol for the United States Military where it continues its use. This popularity has led to consumers finding a Sig Sauer P320 for sale easily.

Specifications of the P320
Like the P250, the P320 has a lot of ammunition options including; 9×19 mm Parabellum, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. This gun also requires special modifications to use different ammo types.

One difference between the two guns is their size availability. The P320 has an additional size available for purchase called carry. It is slightly smaller than full size but larger than a compact weapon. Here are some of the specifications:

  • Weight: 25-29.4 oz (with magazine)
  • Length: 170-203 mm
  • Barrel Length: 91-120 mm
  • Width: 33-35.5 mm
  • Height: 119-140 mm

Development
Sig Sauer did not release the perfect handgun immediately, and the competition-winning pistol did not develop overnight. The P250 was not widely used because people did not find them comfortable to use. Sig Sauer listened to the complaints and made a better handgun.

Even the P320 had issues with the trigger when it first came out. Sig Sauer took responsibility and recalled the items and sent replacements. The current version of the P320 has been built from years of experience and listening to users. Trust the people who want the best from the handgun they’re using.
